Rise of The Demon Slayer

Anime has become huge in recent years. One such success is the very popular series; Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer. The story revolves around a young boy named Tanjiro Kamado who has his entire family slain and his sister transformed into a demon by the creator of all demons, Kibutsuji Muzan. Tanjiro trains in the way of demon slaying, joins the demon slayer corps and embarks on a journey to avenge his family and turn his sister back to normal. This series has gained immense popularity since its anime debut in 2019. The series became so popular 1 single episode was trending for an entire week because of the stunning artwork and animation, the audio quality, and the intensity of the episode itself. The hype train for this series only grew with the release of the series’ first ever theatrical movie, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer Mugen Train. The movie proved to not only boast some amazing artwork and animation, a compelling story, riveting characters and action but to propel the series forward to cement itself as one of the best anime series to ever come out.

The series has reached such heights that the first ever demon slayer game; Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, made by the same company that created the immensely popular Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm franchise, CyberConnect2. This company has always been able to capture the essence of the series they are working with. When it came to Naruto, they were able to capture the pivotal moments and fights that came about during the series run with beautiful animations, quick time events and flawless gameplay. Demon Slayer is no different. The gameplay mechanics are like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series which makes it easier to control and jump right into the heat of battle.  “I like the fact that I can control the fights using my controller. I also love that the game is exactly like the anime frame by frame with even better graphics, the boss fights are really fun, and I enjoy them a lot!” - Luis Vergaray

The mechanics are simple to grasp and yet make it possible to create complex combos when fighting against the computer or others in online battles. The story mode covers the entire first season and the movie (which are all canon) and that’s roughly 35-40% of the original story from the manga. The game has only kickstarted a massive surge in the series popularity as the game was released on October 15th, 2021, and season 2 of the hit show is slated to release in December of 2021. Demon Slayer is a massive step in the right direction with introducing more video games based on anime series. Not only will Dragonball Z, Naruto, and Pokémon be the only anime-based video games that dominate the market. These new series have the potential to bring new and complex stories, characters, powers, and settings to not only help diversify the market but to introduce anime to a larger audience.
