Reaching “The Final Shape”

A few weeks ago, I worked on a massive project that focused on video games having more cinematic storytelling. More specifically, how Destiny has evolved its cinematic storytelling over the years and how it continues to grow with every seasonal (3 months) and yearly expansion.

The recent story of the game has been one of if not the most significant turning point of the story of the Light vs. Darkness in the universe of Destiny. This has ramped things up to 11 as the story has now really kicked things into high gear to reach the culmination of every story thread thus far in “The Final Shape” expansion slated for 2024. For the most part, each seasonal story is a self-contained narrative that runs alongside the major yearly expansion narrative and does tend to intertwine with one another. This yearly expansion and the first season of the year are no different. With the Storytelling having more cinematics and larger plot points added that are complemented immensely with the current season narrative, next season will build upon that and push each narrative up until this point towards that “Final Shape” that Bungie has envisioned all those years ago.

When looking towards the future of Destiny’s storytelling, Abel R, who was also interviewed in my last story Destiny’s Storytelling is “The Final Shape”, had these things to say when asked where he sees the storytelling headed:

I see next season moving in 1 of 2 directions, either the season story will be focused on the Cabal as we are now allies with them as mentioned by MyNameisByf or it can be a curveball that no one sees coming and be related to the Vex or maybe the Fallen. I do feel that whichever way the story goes, it will all be relative to the current yearly story because it would be dumb not to be. I do also see the storytelling being more cinematic as well because the Witch Queen had tons of cinematic’s and that was awesome! The community will always love the cinematics because Bungie really goes in when it comes to creating cutscenes to boost the story or hit you in the feels.

Season 17 of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen starts Tuesday, May 24th. I and my fellow guardians look forward to having more story progress leading up to The Final Shape in 2024.
