Gaming: Becoming an Online Journalist

In the age of technology, people have used it to create strides in how information is accessed like never before. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it was rare but not impossible to find magazines dedicated to video games whether it was to report about up-and-coming titles or about the developers on what their inspiration was behind their current work. Due to modern technology, people have branched from print media to online media as it is easier to access a wider range of viewers/readers in a shorter amount of time.

Online Media

Using this form of media, there are individuals using platforms and garnishing huge success online. These individuals use platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Over the years, many publications have created YouTube channels as they have realized that their demographics are forever evolving and need to keep steady with the changing times to ensure they stay relevant. This goes for those who are starting out from scratch online.

Lack of consistency is the fastest way of losing all the hard work that has been put in to get to that point and it is damn near impossible to revive a “dead channel”. Never change for any reason as that will be detrimental to any potential growth and will lead to downfall. Although this line of work can be stressful, it should never take the fun out of what drives a person’s passion.

Many Youtubers can attest to that statement. In an article from Forbes, Journalist Heather Morgan wrote an article titled “How To Become A Successful YouTuber In 2021” In that article, Heather interviewed a YouTube creator named Ashley who has a very successful channel named “BestDressed”. In this interview, Heather asked Ashley burning questions about becoming a YouTube creator and Ashley had stated this important statement: “It can push you if you feel uninspired or not motivated to just put something out or try something new.” (Morgan, 2021)

Keep Up the Grind

It is common knowledge that the gaming community online (such as on YouTube, Twitch and etc.) is overly saturated with content creators known and unknown, it is never too late or impossible to start out and catch that lightning in a bottle. According to Heather’s article, Ashley states “Instead of attempting to make viral videos, Bestdressed believes the path to YouTube success requires hard work and creating great content people want to come back for.” (Morgan, 2021)

This is not only true for general success but for those looking for monetary reward as well. It takes months or years of hard work and dedication to see even 1 cent of compensation, and this should not be a determent but a motivator. Everyone wants to be paid like PewDiPie and buy a multi-million-dollar house at a young age just for playing a video game with their face next to the screen. To get there, the work must be put in day in and day out. There is no shortcut in life that works and there isn’t one here. It’s tough but the payoff will be glorious.
